I spent time in the room watching Josh navigate a huge classic text with an ensemble which gave me a front-row seat to how he builds intimacy and emotional detail on a deep-thrust stage without losing the sweep of the story.

More importantly, he was incredibly open with his process: breaking down choices, offering provocations, and challenging me to interrogate my own assumptions about staging, character, and honesty in performance.

It clarified the kind of director I want to be.

That sparked a real shift in my own practice: I left with clearer artistic instincts, a sharper sense of how I want to run a room, and a better understanding of how to push actors toward grounded, truthful work.

It was also my first close-up look at the RSC’s level of rigour: the precision, the curiosity and balancing craft with ambition.
